Eat Fermented Foods! This Year’s Top Health Trend

Happy 2020! It’s that time again: everyone is hopeful for a new year of health, wealth, and meaningful relationships. At Living Alchemy, we believe in pursuing life to the fullest and setting meaningful, realistic goals to make every day (and every year) as good as possible. We believe in feeling your best so that you can accomplish your dreams and bring
joy to those around you. But how do you do this? And what goals should you pursue in 2020?

A factor that many people aren’t aware of is that it’s easier to add a behaviour than to stop a behaviour. We’ve all tried to cut out bad habits, only to find that we go back to them after a few weeks or even a few days. This often causes discouragement and completely giving up on our goals. Instead of focusing on all the things you should stop doing, why not add positive habits into your life? If one of your goals is to eat healthier, don’t focus on cutting out all the bad food in your diet. Instead try to ADD more fruits, veggies, and fermented foods. As you add more and more healthy foods into your diet, you will naturally start cutting out the bad ones and even cravings will subside.

This year’s top health and wellbeing goal is consuming fermented foods on a regular basis. Your microbiome is where dis-ease or health begins. Your diet greatly impacts whether harmful bacteria (dis-ease) or good bacteria (health) flourishes. All around the world cultures use fermented foods as part of their lifestyle and their medicinal regime. As
fermentation comes back into focus, it’s important to understand why eating fermented foods is so beneficial for you and how it can have a positive impact on your year.

Fermentation takes a starch and metabolically converts it to lactic acid. Lactic acid preserves the food and nutrients found within, which is why so many cultures adopted fermentation as a natural preservative. Fermentation transforms food into a more bio-available form so that your body can absorb all the vitamins and minerals easier and efficiently. During fermentation, good bacteria lives off of the natural sugars found in these foods and bad bacteria is killed off. When we consume fermented foods, the good bacteria makes its way to our gut and promotes a healthier microbiome (1).

Living Alchemy is a Canadian company that produces an innovative range of fermented whole food supplements made with organic ingredients. We use the ancient art of fermentation to activate whole foods and herbs into their superior form for our premiumfermented organic whole food blends. We produce these formulas using a traditional, approximately one-month long fermentation containing 35 strains of micro-organisms from a kefir and kombucha living culture. This process delivers the complete, activated herb within a living food matrix for exceptional bio-absorption and effectiveness.

As you pursue your health goals in 2020, ensure you are adding fermented foods into your diet so that you are supporting your overall health and creating a foundation for your body to thrive. At Living Alchemy, we encourage everyone to create goals for their year, but not to get overwhelmed by a massive to-do list. Whether you are adding fermented foods to
your diet or being more active, set realistic goals and enjoy the process. Often the journey is more important than the destination!
